Based on CoreLogic’s property data for the 12 major coastal metro areas included in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) hurricane Irene cone of concern, an estimated 1,874,794 properties are at potential risk of storm surge flooding.
Long Island and New York City faces the highest risk with an estimated 387,813 properties located in the projected path of Irene. Of the properties at risk in Long Island, roughly 66 percent are located outside a hazard flood zone as designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Of the total properties at risk in all 12 cities, almost half, or 48 percent, are not in a designated FEMA flood zone. Read full article…
Towns across north central Connecticut are preparing for Hurricane Irene, which is expected to reach Connecticut by Sunday morning, with rains and winds heralding the storm’s approach as much as a day before, according to the most recent projections.
Although the region is not expected to be directly in the storm’s path as of Thursday evening, towns are preparing for flooding and power outages.
In Enfield, the public works department has drawn down Freshwater Pond and is making sure that culverts are clear in anticipation of heavy rainfall, according to Dan Vindigni, director of emergency management.
No shelters have been designated for Enfield at this time; the town will open emergency shelters on an as-needed basis if homes are damaged.

(ULI), a nonprofit research and education organization supported by its members, is turning 75! To commemorate the occasion, the ULI Foundation Annual Fund has contributed $500,000 to the 75th Anniversary Urban Innovation Fund. About $300,000 of the Fund will be used to support local ULI projects that recognize or launch innovative public private partnerships that advance the ULI mission.
Therefore, ULI Atlanta, the preeminent, multidisciplinary real estate forum in Atlanta, is calling for urban innovation grant ideas.

London-based Douglas & Gordon reports that prices of prime Central London property moved up in the second quarter of the year with an overall increase of 5.8% taking the total for 2011 to 10.8%.
This surge has been led by the market for houses where prices have increased by more than 10% in the quarter. Prime London continues to attract significant foreign investment which is chasing property, the supply of which is down year on year by 25%.
